Some fowls there be that have so perfect sight Against the sun their eyes they do defend And some, because the light does them offend, Do never ‘pear but in the dark or night Others rejoice to see the fire bright And longing for it as they do pretend But find the contrary of what they intend Alas, of that sort I may be by right My destiny to behold you does me lead, Yet do I know … For to withstand your look I am not able And yet can I not hide in a dark place Because remembrance follows me of your face So that, with teary eyes, swollen, unstable My destiny to behold you does me lead, Yet do I know … My destiny to behold you does me lead, Yet do I know I run into the gleed

I yearn and desire You ride a chariot of fire I burn and aspire You rise, a chariot of fire Morph my phorms Storm my brain Harrow my heart Maybe I am the liar You ride a chariot of fire Into hope I expire You rise, a chariot of fire (You rise, a chariot of fire) Sting my throat Flood my soul (Morph my phorms) Snake through my veins (Storm my brain) (Harrow my heart) (*auzi-wandilaz, Harbinger of dawn) (Wehe mir)

Morning and night They can hear the goblins’ cry Come buy, come buy She awakes in the dawn all alone in the ben Sees her sister outside coming back from the glen She seems to be swaying in kind of a dance Her hair in the wind and her mind in a trance Come into the house, oh my darling my dear What horrible feelings of dread and of fear Tell me, what have they done to you, what did you see Have you tasted the fruit, what a shame it would be Come buy our savoury apples of gold Taste them and all them try Follow the song and our orchard behold Come here, come buy, come buy The cries in my head oh I can’t get them out They’re calling me, shrieking so shrill and so loud The goblins are there, they ban me from sleep So sleepless I lie and of fear I do weep Come buy our savoury apples of gold Taste them and all them try Follow the song and our orchard behold Come here, come buy, come buy The song of the goblins that frightens you dear, Is something, alas, that no longer I hear Dreaming of yonder glen as a traveler sees A treacherous haven in hot desert‘s breeze All day, every night I go into the wood Hoping for to buy more of that savoury fruit For the cry of the goblins oh how do I long How I miss the sweet sound of that magical song Never again will you eat our fruit No matter how much you cry Barred is the road to our orchard for good Until another will try Come buy our savoury apples of gold Taste them and all them try Follow the song and our orchard behold Come here, come buy, come buy Come here, come buy, come buy Come here, come buy, come buy Come here, come buy, come buy

Cry not my love! Try not to fall! For all the shadows on the ground Surely, there is light beyond Hope leads the way There you won't stay Grasses grow in light all day Time will pass and love will stay.

about

The musical inspiration for Ephemeral’s 5-track debut EP is taken from a variety of genres ranging from (neo) folk, medieval music and ambient to progressive rock and improvisation. The words are partly inspired by English lyrics from various centuries, and partly original lyrical creations about human longing, growth and the cyclical nature of life, in which every ending gives rise to a new beginning.

Ethereal vocal melodies hover over the fragile guitar and warm low whistles of “Yet Do I Know” (based on a sonnet by Thomas Wyatt) and the bleak harp, harmonium and frame drum soundscape of “Wynter” (a beautiful anonymous medieval English poem). Following the arcane ambient track “Ēarendel” are the folkloristic and rhythmic “Goblins’ Cry” (loosely based on the classic narrative poem “Goblin Market” by Victorian author Christina Rossetti) and finally, “Love Will Stay” – a progressive folk-rock ballad with electric guitars, low whistles and delicate percussion.

CD-R limited edition (200 copies) in cardboard sleeve.
